Boy George Disavows Gay Marriage

Boy George dismissed the escalating furore over legalising gay marriages this week, telling Skrufff 'getting married is a failing heterosexual ritual'.

"It seems ridiculous to be discussing gay marriage when our culture still denies gay kids the right to a proper emotional education," said George.

"No one ever tells you it's OK to love a member of the same sex, there is absolutely no chance to develop a sense of intimacy growing up, and that's why gay men are so crap at relationships, we don't understand how to be intimate," he suggested.

"What good is getting married and aping a failing heterosexual ritual if there's no preparation-"

The Culture club star turned international DJ was speaking to Skrufff from New York, where he's been living and checking out the local nightlife for the last six months, he revealed.

"New Yorker's are certainly more forward when it comes to sex, the gay scene is very sexually charged and it's very much a city of extremes," said George.

"America seems to have a puritanical streak and yet there is also a manic sexual energy too. All the gay clubs have go-go boys shaking their butts, which you don't get so much in London. The gay and straight scenes also don't merge as much as they do in England."

This weekend (Saturday 6) George plays a high profile DJ set at the Miami Winter Conference's Ultra Music Festival, and will be spinning a mainly house set, he promised.

"I love great house music and I've always mixed it up with other stuff, breaks, electro, hip hop, a bit of ragga I don't really follow what's trendy in house, I just play records I like and see what the crowd does," he explained.
