Bliss n Eso have come of age.

In 2000, they released their debut EP, “The Arrival”. They were ambitious teenagers trying to make their mark on the world with their chosen craft ‘hip hop’. In 2003 when they won ‘best hiphop act’ at the musicoz awards, it was clear that they were well on their way to doing just that, so back into the studio they went, looking forward to their next release taking them even further. Skip forward to 2004, and you will find that Bliss, Eso and DJ Izm are as ambitious as ever, with the release of their debut album ‘Flowers In The Pavement’ out through Obese Records.

‘Flowers in the Pavement’, stands out for so many reasons. If the immediate metaphor is lost on you, imagine a bleak, grey concrete jungle. Then picture an amazing bunch of flowers somehow not only growing but blooming in these unlikely conditions. And that is their new album - a wonderfully imaginative and sophisticated effort born out of their dedication to and passion for hip hop.

This is not simply an album of loops. The colours and intricate textures in ‘Flowers in the Pavement’ include melodic accordions, roaming and hypnotic synths, choruses that borrow from the P-Funk tradition of multi-octave singing and chanting, and a very strong sense of musicality that many hip hop groups spend years cultivating. To compliment the crew’s lyrical collage of crazy ideas, innovative metaphors, larger-than-life characters and intriguing role-play, Bliss has teamed up with some of Australia's freshest producers including Suffa from Hilltop Hoods, Weapon X and bnaproductions to produce an entree into the sometimes-bizarre world of Bliss n Eso.

'Flowers In the Pavement' is released on 23rd August by Obese Records.
