Beauty and the Beats, US female DJ competition

Have you dreamed of rocking the perfect set in front of hundreds of screaming fans, even thousands- Do you love music so much it hurts- Is the career of a DJ something that appeals to you- Are you a woman with too many records and not enough opportunities- Well, your turntable has come in.

Rockstar is putting out the call to arms for America's women with music, so flip on the turntable and let the records spin.

The Basics

Make your mix according to our criteria and send it to BPM by January 15th, 2005. The entries will be reviewed by the Editors of BPM Magazine and cut down to a group of semi- finalists. The semi-finalists will be judged by a panel of celebrities DJ RAP, COLETTE, and REID SPEED bringing the final count to three.

The three finalists will then be flown to Los Angeles at the end of February to compete in a spin-off event that will decide the winner of the 2005 Beauty and the Beats DJ competition.

The Prize

The winner will receive the following:

1. A trip to Miami to perform during the 2005 Miami Music Conference [Event TBA] in March.
2. A DJ gear prize package consisting of turntables, headphones, cartridges & mixer from Stanton.
3. An opening slot on the upcoming Beauty and the Beats Tour.

The Rules

Mixes must be received by BPM Magazine no later than January 15, 2005 and must meet the following criteria or they are subject to disqualification:

You must be a female 21+ or older (guys in wigs do not count) and able to travel within the continental United States.

Each mix must be 30 minutes long and presented on CD. MP3 files are acceptable but must be sent on disk as we will not download or access mixes online.

Indexing the tracks is preferred but not necessary.

The mixes will be judged on technical skill, programming and overall creativity. The format is electronic music therefore the mix must consist of one or more of the following genres: House, Trance, Techno, Progressive, Breaks, Drum & Bass, Broken Beat or Downtempo.

Each contestant must submit a photograph that best represents their personal style.

Each mix must be accompanied by a track listing mentioning artist/track/label in that order.

Each contestant must include contact information.

Finalists unable to attend the Los Angeles "Spin-off" will be replaced by the next runner-up.
