A 22 year old man drowned at last weekend's Earthcore dance festival in Australia, the first fatality to occur at the hugely popular outdoor event. Stephen Henshall's body was found snagged on tree branches in the Goulburn River, after disappearing during the weekend.

"All of us here at Earthcore would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Stephen Henshall, who accidentally drowned in the Goulburn River over the weekend," festival organisers declared in a statement.

"It has been one of our greatest fears for many years that someday, someone would pass away at one of our events, and it has been an extremely upsetting experience for us all. It is a sad fact of life that tragic accidents do occur, and this incident should remind us all to take very seriously the additional hazards present in outdoor settings events."

"Despite media speculation there are no plans to cease holding Earthcore events," Earthcore added. "And we remain in close communication with the Police and other emergency services. With the aim of improving our safety net as much as possible into the future," they promised.
