Annie Mac Steals Pete Tong's Slot

Radio 1 will be broadcasting a special edition of Pete Tong's Essential Selection on Christmas Eve this year, though Radio 1 Executive producer Matt Priest insisted the move doesn't mean she's being groomed as the new Pete Tong.

"She's definitely not; there's only one Pete Tong but Annie is a very exciting new broadcaster and this felt like a great opportunity to let people know what a great job she's been doing," Matt told Skruff this week.

"We've been so impressed by what she's done, we wanted to give her a chance to showcase that talent in an earlier time slot," he added.

The Radio 1 dance chief was equally enthusiastic the overall health of clubland declaring "2004 was an incredibly positive year for dance music'.

"There were lots of success stories, lots of exciting new music and we saw clubland really getting itself back on its feet," said Matt. "I predict more of the same for 2005."
