Civil liberties group The Drugs Policy Alliance (DPA) described this weekend's Day and Night of Outrage' anti-RAVE Act protests as the start of a 'revolution' this week, and called on DJs, clubbers and music fans to take part at all costs.

"The end of live music as we know it could be on its way, with a devastating impact on the music industry," they warned.

"Our goals on this day are to educate the public, raise money, bring national media attention to Congress's assault on civil liberties, identify our allies, and build a grassroots movement to protect live music."

The DPA will also be forming lobbying groups and escalating their letter writing campaign targeted at US senators.

"The CLEAN-UP Act is too broad, it permits the federal government to punish people for the crimes of others and stifles free speech and musical expression," a sample letter on the DPA website points out.

"Moreover, it gives too much power and discretion to prosecutors, who may use it to target events they personally don't like - such as Hip Hop concerts and gay and lesbian fundraisers."
