15 'neither male nor female but superhuman' contestants will be competing at the Alternative Miss World beauty pageant in London next month which returns after a six year absence.

The event's organisers revealed this week that the ceremony is being planned along the lines of a pedigree dog show.

"The event is modelled more on Crufts than the world famous beauty pageant (Miss World). However, they do share the same competition categories: daywear, swimwear and eveningwear with catwalk promenade and personality interview," they explained.

Previous winners include film director Derek Jarman, an 84 year old Russian man who picked up the crown at the last event in 1998. This year's proceedings are being co-hosted by Kashpoint impresario Matthew Glamorre, one of London's most dedicated followers of extreme fashion.

"The majority of young people in this country have made their opinions irrelevant by their eagerness to conform to the consumerist society," Glamorre told Skrufff in a recent chat.

"Many people don't realise quite what a serious fucking job dressing up is; that actually what you're doing by dressing up is going out to battle. The whole idea of flamboyance is to show others their imprisonment," he added.

Alternative Miss World takes place at the London Hippodrome on Friday October 22; tickets cost £25 and are available from the venue.
