Though the old skool term 'deep house' is nowadays more usually (mis) applied to generic, supposedly soulful, deeply boring house, in the case of German duo Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer it's well worth reviving, as a positive and highly appropriate term for their brand new debut album Ame.

According to one online definition 'deep house is at a slower tempo then most house music, and focuses on jazz music samples' while another suggests 'when you strip away the vocals and organ sounds of traditional house music, you are left with the deep soulful, extended grooves of deep house'. Ame's music fits both descriptions seamlessly though more importantly comes with a tunefulness, ambience and originality that defies generalisations and most importantly sounds great. Coming out on Jazzanova's highly respected label Sonar Kollektiv this October, the album provides yet further musical proof that dance music and specifically house remains a vibrant and powerful force.
