Adam Freeland Snubs Small Minds

Breaks supremo Adam Freeland launched a stinging attack on musical uniformity this week, as he started promotion for his highly eclectic new mix CD for Fabric.

"I'm generally frustrated by small-mindedness and the reason why I started playing breaks was because it was totally open-minded, a mixture of everything from funk to hip hop to electro to house and drum & bass," said Adam.

"As soon as people get all restrictive, saying the sound has to be this, I just say that was then and the sound has to keep moving and developing. But some people can't seem to get their heads round that, it has to be this sound or it isn't pure. To me that totally misses the point of what DJing is about," he complained.

Putting policy into practise, he kicks off his new mix with the rock-tastic strains of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, before launching into a breaks-fuelled journey that incorporates several of his own tracks plus welcome diversions in the shape of PET, Radioactive Man and LFO's still fantastic acid electro anthem Freak.

The CD's June/ July release coincides with a busy travelling period for the Brighton based jock which sees him headlining at Rock In Rio (Brazil), Coachella (US), Sonar (Spain) and touring with Massive Attack.
