Hacienda DJ legend Graeme Park castigated Radio 2's documentary 'The Second Summer Of Love' this week, describing the programme as 'inaccurate, poorly researched and quite simply wrong'.

"According to this 'documentary', it was London DJs who first started playing House music and it was London where people started taking Ecstasy for the first time," he stormed in a posting on his website (graemepark.com)

The Haçienda, Mike Pickering or myself got a mention . . . apparently, The Haçienda never existed," said Graeme.

"I think I must have dreamt the whole thing".

Chatting to Skrufff following his post, Graeme described himself as a huge fan of most Radio 2 music documentaries though admitted he's still seething about the broadcast.

"As far as I can tell, every UK DJ interviewed for this fantastical and imaginative rewriting of history was from London or the South East," he complained.

"As a BBC licence payer, I indirectly paid for this drivel. Talk about smug BBC."

"It's very important to record the history of House correctly because there are thousands of people out there who have come to dance music in the last few years who have no idea of its origins in the UK," he added.

"Nottingham, Manchester and Bristol all nurtured early House before London cottoned on.

"There's a whole new generation of clubbers who've only known Tong on Radio One, Kiss 100 in London, Galaxy around the UK and other specialist stations and shows and they need to be aware of the fact that it wasn't always this way and it wasn't so easy as it is now to break records and spread the word," he added.
