Warp Records Spectacular

Warp Records will stage a unique live event at La Fondation Vaserely in May. This will be the first time that this beautiful building (see attached picture) has been used for such an event. We are privileged and excited to be involved! The building has proved to be the perfect location for Warp to showcase both the music the label is renowned for and the film and visual work currently in development with Warpfilms.

Completed in 1976, the Foundation was set up by seminal optical artist Victor Vasarely as a means to educate and demonstrate how his own carefully developed principles and theories of colour and design could be integrated into architecture to positively affect the daily lives of ordinary people. Along with Vasarely‚s own ŒMusee Didactique‚ in Gordes (sadly now closed forever) and Le Corbusier‚s ŒCite Radieuse‚ in Marseille, La Fondation Vaserely is one of the great modern buildings of France and an awe-inspiring tribute to the visionary ideas of this post-war architect/urbanist/artist and socialist.

Warp will take over La Fondation Vaserely on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 May 2003, utilising the three upstairs rooms for a full programme of live acts and DJs on both nights, plus visual work and the latest Warp Films premieres in the Foundation‚s own dedicated cinema.

Long time Warp visual collaborators The Designers Republic are currently producing a site-specific sequential graphics piece that will run for several days in the main gallery areas.

The event will be the opening weekend of Aix Numerique - a week-long festival of concerts, workshops and events that will run until the 31st May.

Line-up:

Plaid (full live show)
Jamie Lidell

Mira Calix

Full information on which artists will be playing on each night will be posted on the Warp Records site soon. Full ticket information will also be announced shortly.
