Marco Carola's weekly London techno event System has shut down until further notice citing 'ongoing difficulties with Propaganda', he announced this week.

Just two weeks ago, a minor tear gas incident at the Central London venue left clubbers coughing and choking just minutes before Dave Clarke was due to before an eagerly anticipated set, spoiling the evening for many of those looking forward to Clarke's first London set of the year.

While Clarke eventually played with no further problems, the recent horrific tear gas incident in Chicago, in which 21 people died, presumably concentrated the System promoters' minds, prompting them to cancel this week's event at the 11th hour.

"We have had a lot of meetings with other venues but with no luck, so for now we feel we have no other option but to close," said System in a statement.

"However, we think London needs a weekly techno party and if we find somewhere suitable we shall definitely be back."
