Amorous Russian couples caught kissing on Moscow's underground railway system could soon be locked up under new public decency laws being introduced in the former Soviet capital.

"From the new year, citizens kissing and embracing publicly will be fined," warned an editorial in local newspaper Stolichnaya Vechernyaya Gazeta.

"Particularly blatant cases could even lead to a spell of temporary detention in jail."

Skrufff contributor Larry Tee visited Moscow two weeks ago to host the city's first ever Electroclash festival and said he'd been struck by the heavy police presence throughout the city.

"There does seem to be a lot of security in all aspects of Soviet life with police checks everywhere," said Larry.

"We were pulled over by the police, for example, on the way to the cool afterhours club and the police hit our driver for 600 roubles to 'keep the peace'. "

Larry DJed at the event alongside his gorgeous proteges W.I.T. who also watched their backs, he said.

"Christine kissed a girl at a really crowded and wild womens' bar, but she didn't try it in a subway or on the street," he continued.

"The clubs weren't wildly hedonistic, either, they were very polite and cool like European clubs, I didn't notice any drugs or hedonistic behaviour at all. The closest thing to sex in the clubs was air kisses."
