Nightlife in America could be outlawed within a year, according to an alarming 'Action Alert" issued this week by civil liberties group the Drug Policy Alliance.

The threat comes from both the notorious RAVE Act and the Clean-up Act, another bill threatening 9 year sentences for promoters behind 'any rave, dance, music or other entertainment event' that might attract some attendees that would use or sell drugs, they warned.

"If either the Clean-up Act (H.R. 834) or the RAVE Act (H.R. 718) becomes law, Congress could effectively ban live music and dancing, as well as any other event that might attract someone that would use drugs (essentially any event that draws a large crowd)," said the DPA.

"It doesn't matter if the concert promoter and property owner try to prevent people from using drugs. Nor does it matter if the vast majority of people attending the event are law-abiding citizens that want to listen to music, not do drugs."

Both puritanical bills could effectively outlaw all licensed music events and even people throwing private house parties or barbecues could face 20 year prison sentences if police discovered a single guest smoking a joint.
