Labour authorities have backtracked on their frightening attempt to ban next weekend's massive anti-war march from Hyde Park, after numerous commentators ridiculed their shameless assault on political freedom in the UK.

"The government's excuse that it wishes to protect the grass and avoid twisted ankles is worthy of a Soviet Commissar," said former Times Editor Simon Jenkins in an opinion piece in the Standard, adding, "This is political".

The march will now go ahead as originally planned on Saturday February 15, in the afternoon, with up to a million protestors expected to register their opposition to war in Iraq.
