On Wednesday 3rd September DJs from NMIT, Victoria University and Melbourne University battled it out for the Future DJ Northern Regional Final.

The top 2 DJs from the Northern Regional Final, Gunjaguru (Melbourne University) and Mz Rizk (Victoria University) will now go onto to compete at the Future DJ final at the Prince of Wales in October.

Gunjaguru received $250 to spend at Upfornt Records and Mz Rizk received $80 to spend at Upfront Records and now look forward to battling it out with the other Future DJ finalists.

"I was shocked to go through because of the talent that was out........I'm going to prepare very hard for the Future DJ Final and keep it under raps until the final," advised a very enthusiastic Mz Rizk.

Gunjaguru, also very pleased to make it through to the Future DJ Final currently does not have any residencies around town but looks forward to competing against some of the best tertiary student DJs in the state. His and entry into the Future DJ Final will showcase him to some of the industry's most influential people and hopefully grant him what Future DJ is aimed at creating - work for aspiring and talented DJs who would normally never get an opportunity such as this.

Andre Cato, Digital Musician Editor for 12am.com.au summed up the night, "After weeks of judging heats at Universities and Tafes throughout Victoria, it was an amazing experience to sit and watch the best of the best at the Northern Regional Finals on Wednesday night. The quality and diversity of performance and musical styles for me really brought to life, the goals set out by the Future DJ competition".

Cato went further to say, "Every DJ that has entered and discussed their sets with me have proven their dedication to music and this in itself is truly allowing Future DJ to act as a platform for the thousands of DJ's within Higher Education, firstly here in Victoria, but also spreading throughout Australia next year".

This Thursday the 11th of September Revolver Upstairs will host the Future DJ Southern Regional Final with DJ's competing from Monash Uni, RMIT, William Angliss Institute of Tafe and NMIT.

The Future DJ Southern Regional Final will feature an early pre-battle set by Grant Smillie and should promise to be an exciting DJ battle.
