Strike - Say goodbye to smelly old bowling shoes

The last time bowling came into my life was in the form of Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid and Bill Murray conning their way into a bowling tournament in Reno, Nevada in the offbeat 1996 flick 'Kingpin'.

Thankfully my most recent experience at Melbourne's 'Strike City Bowling Bar' was without the sleaze, the smelly old shoes and muzak (although that ball Bill Murray used in the finale was rather sensational).

Located in the nearly completed QV complex in the heart of the city, 'Strike City' offers all the niceties one desires for a great night out.

On entry you can't help but admire the sleek interior design, (Cavin Chait, Terrence Bergagna, Michael Schreiber and Emillio Zarro) hear the crisp, clear sounds coming from the sound system, and notice the slick selection of music videos displayed on the plasma, LCD and flat screens situated all over the bar.

For those requiring to be fed and watered, the bar (headed up by Gin Palace's Ben Wild) has a fabulous array of cocktails, and the tapas (prepared by Sommer-Lee Parker ex Soft Belly and The Metropolitan) are lip-smackingly good.

If you're after a relaxing game of pool or wish to torture your friends with karaoke then its all here, but of course the most important part is the bowling; 'Strike City' has plenty of lanes and 2 private areas on offer, and if the ball doesn't go where you want it to, well sorry, your fault - no shonky workmanship here.

Be it a pre-party meeting place, a not so large night out, or a recovery from the night before 'Strike City Bowling Bar' is a whole lotta fun and definitely worth a vist. Special thanks must go to Blaise and all the staff who looked after us so very well.
