Manhattan superclub the Sound Factory has re-opened its doors after New York cops shuttered the venue over drug allegations. New York promoters Musicology Events and Madness Entertainment host Mix this Friday night (March 8) and promise future guest DJs including Tall Paul, Ferry Corsten and Misstress Barbara.

"We ask that you support this party for the love of electronic music and to completely bring the music scene back to a 3000 capacity venue that will be open from 11pm-8am (or later if necessary) religiously every Friday night beginning March 7th, 2003," promoters told local website clubplanet.com this week.

Whether the club stays open long term remains open to question, given the huge pressure on nightlife by US authorities. A September posting by the club's web chief Mike Whitmore on Sound Factory's website, which remains online, claimed that undercover cops were even taking drugs and posing as clubbers.

"You may have met him or her here or elsewhere, you may have exchanged phone numbers or speak with each other in the chat room," Mr Whitmore suggested.

"You may think you buy, sell or use drugs together with impunity, you may dance this night away feeling safe in each other's company.

But think again, your friend may be an undercover policeman....."
