Radiohead called their new album Hail To The Thief as a deliberate tactic to highlight the 'fascist' behaviour of Tony Blair and George W Bush, singer Thom Yorke said last week on the official press release accompanying the record.

"All power corrupts, the closer you get the uglier it becomes, they're not even human beings, these people are possessed." said Yorke, on his recent experience of mixing with politicians on the Drop The Debt campaign.

"In the middle ages, everyone was obsessed by people who were 'possessed' and the same thing is happening now, the same sense of a malignant force ripping apart civilisation," he continued.

"That's what I was trying to say about the darkness that envelops people. They don't know it's happening to them and they think they're doing the right thing but the rise of fascism and ignorance are what they're really calling into play. And to me that's the real 'thief'."
