German hard/ trance/ dance type Paul Van Dyk launches an extensive North American tour this weekend, kicking off down south somewhat in Mexico's Guadalajara. His monthly tour sees the superstar DJ flying coast to coast no less than four times, emphasising his continuing commitment to the American market.

The East German DJ remains one of dance culture's most articulate and passionate defenders which could come in handy as American authorities continue to attack club culture.

"We need to lay the ground rules, to share the fact in magazines that electronic music IS a cultural thing," Van Dyk told Skrufff correspondent Twinky Lagdameo last year.

"In La Scala in Milan for example, there's a big cultural thing going on and no one would shut it down because it's Opera," he pointed out.

"Electronic music is a very different angle of culture and it should receive the same amount of respect.

The beauty of electronic music is that it is a gathering of free minds, of different ideas coming together. That is why I emphasize that people must understand that it is a youth culture, that they must go out and share it, show it in their owns ways. People must bring the whole cultural thing across in their own way, in their own minds."
