Have you ever made the spontaneous decision to go to a party where there's no guarantee that it'll even be fun- You know what I'm talking about right- It's the event without the inclusion of big-name internationals, without a hefty ticket price that "must" mean it's gonna be good, without the now common advertising extravaganza that seems to follow the raving world wherever it may be…

Well, if you're staring dumbfounded at these words in the realisation that you didn't even know these events existed, then I suggest you read on.

Around May of last year, I had a friend from outside of the party community tell me that there was something being held near his place in Ballarat that was apparently of the ravish nature. Having not seen this friend in quite a long time, I decided to go and see what he was talking about.

At the time, I'd only been to some of the "bigger" events of the year, and was honestly expecting to be led into a basketball court with a few dodgy lights and maybe one or two crappy DJs… fuck was I wrong.

"Oppurknockitytunes Once" was one of the best nights I've ever had. The mix of music styles, the friendly crowd, the lack of a pecking order within the massive, the stilt walkers, the fire jugglers… well I guess you could say it was well worth my $10. Diskopussy played a great set, and there were plenty of talented unknown DJs playing mostly Psy-Trance, Techno and Drum'n'bass over two rooms, and the lighting setup was truly amazing, with a huge projection screen and lasers to boot.

Returning home, I couldn't shut up about what a wicked time I had in Ballarat. Eventually people got sick of my babbling and just began to ignore it. That was until two months later, when I found the announcement of a second instalment on the internet. It didn't take me long to begin my own little promotion mission, and after some planning, myself and five friends headed off for what I was promising to be an awesome party like they'd never seen.

"Oppurknockitytunes Once Again" equalled and surpassed its predecessor without question. The word had obviously gotten around about the first one and there was a definite increase in numbers to prove it. Once again, there were two rooms - the mainroom mostly Techno, and the side room was of a more experimental nature. Diskopussy returned, this time alongside Slack for a versus set that got the dancefloor moving along like a steam train. The vibe was incredible, there were people from all-over the place, and the decor had been given a notch-up on what high standards had already been set by the first one. Needless to say, all my friends went home very happy. For once my hype was justified.

It's been quite a while since "Once Again", which was held around August last year. The Oppurknockity crew have been brewing yet another instalment, set to blow the other two out of the history books. I recently spoke to Brendan King AKA Kingy, who is one of the two founders of this underground party crew. We spoke about the Ballarat scene, the history of the group, and what to expect in the future.

Kingy says it all began with him and a mate just fooling around on the decks and dreaming of a day when they too could hold a party to be proud of. Gradually as more people became interested, the possibility of actually making something out of their hobby started to become a reality. The Oppurknockity crew had put on a few small club-type nights to try and get themselves on the map of the Ballarat scene, and soon enough, they were confident that they could pull-off a party, and pull it off well.

One thing I'm sure Kingy prides himself on is the friendly atmosphere that comes hand-in-hand with Oppurknockity. I guess it has a lot to do with the growing scene in Ballarat. "You'd probably say that it's like Melbourne used to be when everything was starting to get off the ground." It's a credit to the parties because it avoids the invasion of those who go to raves just because they're supposed to
