NME's New Job Rule: No Drinking Required

Journalists applying for the vacant position of News Editor of pop weekly NME will no longer have to boast alcoholic credentials judging by a recruitment ad in this week's Guardian.

The advert says, 'You'll be prepared to work long hours where necessary, ligging at endless gigs to deliver that killer headline', the same as when the position was last advertised in October 2002.('You'll be prepared to work long hours ligging to deliver that killer headline').

However, unlike the last time, the new advert no longer adds 'And equally important, you'll be able to hold your drink as well as your nerve.'

Could NME editor Conor McNicholas (who previously tried to kill progressive house when he was editor of Muzik) have given up drinking-
