Cutting edge rock weekly NME discarded their last pretensions towards credibility this week with a double page spread eulogising former Take That singer Robbie Williams.

"Robbie's performance at Knebworth showed exactly why the UK loves him," they panted in a special NME Says editorial.

"He's Britain in a nutshell- self-doubting but shameless, honest but hypocritical, with a song in his heart and a sneer in his lips."

"We forgive him his flaws and indeed love him more because of them," they added going on to claim that the karaoke pop idol has "only got about eight really great songs".
