NME Take Credit for Inventing Electroclash

British rock weekly NME this week boasted they invented the genre term 'electroclash' after Collins English dictionary included the word in their latest edition.

"We've always known that NME was the greatest weekly music read in the world- but now we've discovered that we're officially shaping the English language too," they bragged."

"Words like 'emo' and 'electroclash' have been taken straight from the pages of the NME and added to the updated dictionary."

New York producer Larry Tee, who actually owns the copyright to the term, was distinctly unimpressed by NME's claims.

"I challenge NME to show me a listing in their magazine of the term 'Electroclash' before the TM (Trademark) procedure I used to protect the festival name in February 2001," Larry told Skrufff.

"I don't really care about the credit but I am surprised that a paper with integrity like NME would choose to go with an incorrect piece of information."

According to the Collins dictionary definition, electroclash is 'a type of electronic music, originating in the first decade of the 21st century, that combines modern techno with synthesizer music characteristics of the 1980s" (as modifier): The electroclash scene.
