Police in Miami have started enforcing stringent anti-noise laws against nightclubs and have set up a task force of 20 officers to bust any club whose music can be heard 100 yards away.

"The loud noise is something that has become a real hot topic here in Miami Beach, Miami Detective Bobby Hernandez told the New York Times.

"Our goal is to get the word out there that this type of behaviour is not going to be accepted anymore. It will also address other quality-of-life issues like prostitution, urinating in public and loud exhaust pipes on motorcycles."

Nightclubs face fines of $250 for a first offence with $500 fines for future violations and according to The Times, city officials are actively considering additional laws that will allow them to close clubs that repeatedly play music too loud.
