Italian hard dance/ techno DJ Mauro Picotto pulled out of a planned Australian tour this week, after contracting an ear infection at the eleventh hour.

"Unfortunately he is suffering from an ear infection which basically means he cannot travel or be in close proximity to loud noises," Mauro's management explained in a letter to promoters.

"Should he travel, Mauro would be risking long term ear damage by both the pressure involved in flying and of course the effects of noise pollution."

Speaking to Skrufff following the announcement, Picotto's manager Jake McNeill revealed that the problem remains fairly serious.

"It's been an ongoing issue for quite some time, basically it's been brought on my too much flying and too much listening to loud music, just general pressure on his ears," he said.

"He gets severe earache basically and the doctors are really worried, as I am, about long term problems for his hearing.

"As much as you don't want to let anybody down, we have to take into consideration the long term effects on his health and hearing. His doctor's are concerned about him developing tinnitus."

Jake added that he's trying to persuade the DJ to restructure his schedule to reduce similar problems in the future.

"I'm telling him he needs to start taking at least one weekend off each month and I'm planning to change his diary. I'm sure a lot of it is caused by general stress from juggling Djing, travelling and being in the studio with family life," he said.

Hearing is one of your senses and they'll come a time when every DJ is going to want to hang up their headphones and get on with a normal life."
