Creaking rock weekly NME believes that the upcoming war on Iraq is a non-story, Massive Attack's 3D revealed this week, in an interview with London listings title Time Out.

"They told us no one was interested in the war story itself, that it was dead," said Robert Del Nada (aka 3D), recalling last September when he first teamed up with Blur singer Damon Albarn to help promote the 'Don't Attack Iraq' campaign. "I was like, 'Really- F*cking hell, that's an interesting concept."

Despite NME's indifference, 3D and Blur singer Damon Albarn bought several double page anti-war adverts in the magazine, though still attracted the scorn of new editor Conor McNicholas, shortly afterwards.

"Blur and Massive Attack are almost part of an intellectual old guard," the former editor of Muzik told the Guardian.

"New bands are much more interested in rediscovering rock & roll excess than making political points."

3D, however, told Time Out that the adverts had generated 20,000 signatures to an anti-war petition, which is why he'a placing more ads in NME to highlight the next big anti-war demonstration in London on February 15.
