Superstar pop singer Madonna believes that Britain's mainstream music market is too homogenised and dominated by 'those who crave celebrity status for its own sake,' the Sunday Times revealed this week.

"I arrived at a different time," she complained.

"Before the time of svengalis holding talent searches, finding a girl that looks right and can carry a tune and then figuring a way to market her."

Meanwhile in the Guardian, the paper honed in on a revealing entry in a new catalogue for a series of photographs of the Material Girl, which suggests she's going undercover.

"The pop star known for her brilliant manipulation of images is now reaching beneath the surface," says the catalogue entry.

"In an increasingly uncertain world, Madonna is embracing 'the best within'."
