Men make no distinction between eating male or female human flesh while women express a definite preference for men, according to an academic study comparing cannibalism and sex, published last year.

American psychology professor Steve Scher from Eastern Illinois University uncovered the taste trend by examining the degrees of disgust people felt over various possible human dinners and also found that people are more likely to eat someone they find sexually attractive. The Professor's report was highlighted this week by a News Of The World feature examining German cannibal killer Armin Meiwes which said cannibals share many characteristics with serial killers.

"They're out there, they look like me and you, they're intelligent, they are in control of their faculties," expert Jacques Buval told the tabloid.

"There are hundreds of cannibals in each country around the world- and that includes Britain."
