The 'Sounds Like Techno' website is hosting a live online chat with techno legend Derrick May on Sunday 20th July from 12.00 noon at www.soundsliketechno.com.au.

Derrick will be online answering questions and chatting with fans [ommitted myself from here].

Derrick is a highly influential US DJ and producer directly responsible for making some of the first music that is today regarded as techno.

He began DJing in Detroit during the early 1980s and formed Deep Space Soundworks with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson in 1981. He produced classics including 'Nude Photo', 'Strings Of Life', 'Kaos' and 'It Is What It Is', from 1987 to 1989 under the moniker Rhythim Is Rhythim.

Derrick is credited by the industry for creating some of the most influential and original techno tracks, despite long period[s] of recording inactivity during 1990s. He is known among fellow Belleville Three members as the "innovator" and continues to DJ around the world and manages his two labels, Transmat Records and its subsidiary, Fragile.

This will be the first of a series of live online forums on the 'Sounds Like Techno' site, which explores techno music, from its roots and early influences to its place in Australian music today.

Featuring local and international artists, event promoters, managers of independent record labels and music from some of the most important DJs from Detroit to Melbourne, 'Sounds Like Techno' is a unique Australian website which combines a broad range of opinions, styles and influences that are inherent to this subculture. It is produced by Springtime Productions, with the assistance of the ABC Film Victoria Multimedia Production Accord.
