Electroclash founder Larry Tee is renaming his annual music festival the 'Outsider Electronic Music Festival', he told Skrufff this week.

"We want to open up the event to people who don't identify with electroclash," said Larry.

"Since the English dictionary added the term Electroclash to their vocabulary, we needed a name that didn't prevent artists that didn't feel like they were electroclash from being a part of the celebration," he added.

The Outsider festival will be taking place on December 11th and 12th at new Manhattan nightspot Crobar with acts including LFO, Fat Truckers, My Robot Friend and 2 Many DJs already confirmed. The event will also be featuring many bands previously branded electroclash, though Larry admitted he no longer uses the term to describe music.

"I often say 'the new wave of dance music' or 'the new rock-disco' but since I book so many different kinds of acts at the festival from genres like ghetto tech, smut-bass, and alternative electronic rock, no wonder people are afraid of the term," he said.

"But it's actually a blessing that some people don't relate to electroclash because I don't relate to what the majority of Americans are listening to these days either.

It's great to have an underground again that is so fresh and political in a new way. It's not preachy, but it's dealing with issues like sexuality, corporate sell-outs, celebrity culture and entertainment excess, and it has a very strong female voice, that you don't hear much of in music these days."
