Former New York Club-Kid DJ Keoki told Skrufff this week that he believes his ex-boyfriend Michael Alig killed Angel Melendez after his excessive drug use enabled dark forces to enter his mind.

"I think Michael was overtaken by evil and demons, the selfish entities that are out there that wanted to manipulate this brilliant creature into doing something for them, for the dark side," he suggested.

"I believe that evil is really out there and it can appear in lots of different ways. I also believe that through the use of drugs you open yourself up to everything, evil and goodness, evil and ecstasy. So it's scary when you're on drugs and you're around all those forces because they can take you over completely. I've been guilty myself of being evil when I'm on drugs, because it's not been me," he added.

Keoki, who dated Alig for 7 years, plays a central role in new movie Party Monster (he's played by actor Wilmer Valdarrama in the film), though broke up with Alig some 12 months before the promoter killed and dismembered drug dealer/club-kid Angel Menendez.

"Before Michael went to jail he talked to me about what happened and I couldn't believe it, I was battling my own demons at the time and I remember thinking 'Michael's lost his mind'," Keoki recalled.

"Up until that point I'd always thought of him as being one of the strongest and smartest people I'd ever met, I admired him, he just didn't seem like the kind of person that could be crushed by anything. Then the killing happened, everything crumbled and he crushed like an eggshell."

Six years later, Alig remains in a New York penitentiary serving a ten to 20 year sentence for manslaughter while Keoki is currently enthusiastically reinventing himself as a drug-free, mash-up electroclash DJ.

"Everything is fine in my head now, with how I feel about Michael and myself," he said.

"I still consider Michael a friend, I can't wait until the day we can sit down and I can ask him the questions that I want to ask, then everything will be finally closed."

Keoki DJs at the after-party for the Party Monster London premier at The End on Tuesday (October 14) and also releases a new mix CD- 'Kill The DJ-A Non-Stop Mash-Up Mix by Keoki' in November.
