Drug dealers who fail to pay advance tax bills on their illicit earnings face massive additional fines, under a new tax regime instigated by Kansas City revenue officials. Under the controversial scheme, drug suppliers are expected to buy drug tax stamps, valid for three months which they're then supposed to attach to the controlled substance immediately after receiving the substance, tax officials declare.

"Drugs seized without stamps or having expired stamps may result in criminal or civil penalties which may include fines, seizure of property or liens against real estate," warns a message on the Kansas Department of Revenue, adding the proviso 'Purchasing drug tax stamps does not make possession of drugs legal.'

Dealers are expected to buy the stamps in person from the Topeka Assistance Center though have to pay in cash or by money order (no personal checks allowed) with a minimum order of $100 and a dealer is classified as anyone with more than an ounce of marijuana or a gram of Class A drugs (cocaine, heroin etc).

Law abiding dealers are expected to pay taxes of $200 per gram or $2,000 per 50 pills though are allowed to buy the stamps anonymously.
