Heroin & Cocaine Creativity Confusion

John Taylor and Moby both addressed the link between drug use and musical creativity this week, with each musician coincidentally singling out rock icons the Rolling Stones.

'Look, Exile On Main Street wouldn't have happened without Keith Richards' heroin addiction," the Duran Duran bassist told the Observer.

"And Young Americans wouldn't have happened without Bowie's cocaine addiction."

While Taylor admitted to also using cocaine in the 80s ('and ecstasy, valium and downers too') Moby's stance was different.

"Luckily I never really got into drugs, in particular cocaine, which seems to destroy music more than anything," the New Yorker told the Guardian.

"The Rolling Stones have made great records on heroin for decades but Oasis start taking coke and look what happens."

Moby's new DVD '18+ B Sides' is out now on Mute, Duran's Greatest Hits DVD is on EMI.
