England's best known garage event Twice As Nice has been cancelled by their latest venue Turnmills after a man was shot and killed and another wounded at the club's Easter event last weekend (Sunday April 20).

According to newspaper reports, a group of six to eight men stormed past Turnmills security at 2.30am, sparking violence inside the packed venue. Two groups then ran outside the club and a gun fight erupted which continued as both groups climbed into two cars, and set off on a Hollywood style car chase. The chase lasted just seconds, however, as one of the vehicles crashed on nearby Farringdon Road. Police found one man with gunshot wounds dead in the crashed car and another man was shot in the shoulder, as most of the other participants escaped.

"We had carried out every possible safety precaution to make sure the night went as smoothly as it possibly could," Turnmills said in a statement this week.

"Unfortunately, a great party inside was spoiled by an armed gang (who we must stress, were not our customers), who then stormed the club at a side entrance and went inside the building.

We are now very sorry to say that the night in question will be cancelled with immediate effect and we are very shocked and saddened by the incident that happened last Sunday night."

Twice As Nice (who were operating under their sub-brand name Sexy & Stylish), issued their own statement condemning the attack.

"The club takes the safety of it's customers very seriously and we had taken steps with the venue owners to ensure that extra security was available for the bank holiday, plus vetting and searching of all people entering the venue," Steve Gordon Managing Director of Twice as Nice said on the club's website.

"There was also a police car stationed outside the venue. But it seems that there are some people that are bent on trying to affect everyone else's enjoyment."

So Solid starlet Lisa Maffia had also been due to perform at the event, though fortunately for the notorious South London collective, pulled out beforehand, due to ill health.

Turnmills otherwise opens as usual this weekend, with the Gallery hosting Judge Jules, Tiesto and Tall Paul on Friday and the Boutique's birthday celebrations with Fatboy Slim and Grandadbob on Saturday.
