Spanish authorities deployed over 1,700 paramilitary cops to the Balearic islands last weekend, as part of what the News of the World labelled a 'massive security clampdown against terror attacks'.

"There definitely seems to be more police on the island than usual," DJ Smokin Jo, who's lived in Ibiza for four years, told Skrufff this week.

"There are a lot more Guardia Civil cars driving around though I haven't noticed any heavier security in the clubs."

The funky house DJ, who spins at Manumission each week as well as Space and Pacha, said the season has got off to an otherwise promising start.

"It's always a bit crazy for the first week then it dies down a little, so some people are already panicking saying 'it's really quiet' but actually there's a really nice vibe with much nicer people here," she said

"Lot of the idiots seem to be staying away now, it's been really good so far."

Smokin Jo's new mix CD: Space Ibiza 2003 (also mixed by DJ Reche) is out shortly, on Azuli Records.
