Gilles Peterson Blasts Too Cool Brits

Acid jazz/ eclectic pioneer DJ Gilles Peterson laid into British musicians obsessed with being cool this week, telling Skrufff "I've got a real problem with that British 'we've got to keep it underground' bullshit attitude."

"We're very spoilt, immature people in this country when it comes to the kind of kids making music, who want to be so cool," said Gilles.

"When you meet American artists who understand what it's like to be on welfare and what it's like to basically not have any money, they've got no problems about getting paid and being successful and I think we can learn from that," he said.

"A lot of the British based musicians I know, who've been too bothered about being cool for too long, haven't really got their message across," he continued.

"And a lot of those people are now getting into their late 30s and realising they've missed their moment. And suddenly there's a new bunch of kids around who are a lot younger than them who are far more driven and are far more realistic about the world."

Gilles Peterson's Eclectic Sessions Volume 2 CD comes out on TrustTheDJ Records.com next month.
