Britain's most prominent and fearless gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell called this week for British police to bring hate crime charges against reggae stars Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and Elephant Man.

The Outrage leader cited lyrics written by the trio urging beating and killing gay people and condemned organisers of next week's MOBO awards (Music of Black Origin) for nominating the performers.

"The MOBO organisers would never agree to the nomination of a racist singer who advocated the killing of black or Jewish people," Tatchell said in a statement posted on his website.

"Why are they validating homophobes like Elephant Man, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer-"

"We urge black community leaders to speak out against singers who incite queer-bashing. It is appalling for members of one minority to attack members of another minority. Given our common experience of prejudice, we should stand together united against all forms of discrimination and violence", said Mr Tatchell.
