This Thursday 23rd October, the Prince of Wales will be host to one of the most exciting steps for the DJ/ music industry with the final of the Future DJ competition.

The Future DJ competition in its first year has received such an amazing amount of support and interest that progress is already underway for a national Future DJ in 2004 which will surely see the emergence of something that will take Future DJ to another level.

Competing for an amazing prize which is listed in detail on their website will be the following DJs - Ganjaguru from Melbourne Uni (Hard House/ Trance), Lister Cooray from Victoria Uni (Progressive House), Rael from Holmesglen Tafe (Progressive Trance), Mike G from William Angliss Tafe (Deep House), Mz Rizk from Victoria University (Hard Trance), Tim Nixon from Swinburne University (Hip House/ Progressive House/ Breaks) and Sam Young from RMIT (Hard Trance).

The story behind Future DJ and its birth raises not only the brow but drops the jaw. The competition has literally been created from scratch with $0 as an initial budget and is entirely run by volunteers - including it's Director Ravi Chand.

"I was simply nominated to put together a DJ comp and ran with it, with four main principles in mind -

One - This was not going to compete with the likes of other major DJ comps ie ITF or DMC, Future DJ was going to add something new and fresh to the industry to grow it not compete in it.

Two - Regardless of whether a competitor made it past their heat it had to be constructed in such a way that the exposure alone would generate either extra confidence to get out there or more gigs for them.

Three - In it's first year we are going to learn, grow and probably do some things a little different in the following year but we will always adhere to the highest professionalism.

Four - If we're going to do this, we're going to do this properly not half-hearted. And most of all it's going to be a crap load of work," explains Chand who also has juggled Future DJ with a full time job as Events & Sponsorship Manager at Monash University's Student Union and Chairmanager & Entertainment Co-ordinator for Relay For Life, a 24 hour event that raises find for the Cancer Council in Frankston.

Also coming together and supporting the Future DJ competition for support DJ sets before and after the DJ Battle are undoubtedly some of the industry's best and most recognised DJs - Mark John, Grant Smillie, John Course and Sean Quinn.

The Future DJ Final will certainly attract a great deal of attention from not only agents and promoters within the industry but the general public.

Think about it - a culmination of countless hours of work on a project that began in November 2002 that has captured the support of the industry and tertiary market will now show case some of this state's most promising up and coming DJ talent blended together with the some of the industry's best professional DJs...

Marketing Manager for Hardware Corporation, Edwina Tarrant went on to say, "The entire competition circuit, and more importantly the Future DJ final, has provided competitors with an experience of a lifetime. Each finalist will be performing on stage - with a fantastic production set up - to the industry and friends alike, in one of Melbourne's best venues. This environment provides these upcoming DJ's with an experience they will never forget.

We look forward to being front row and centre at the final, as we prepare for some very special talent...Victoria's future DJ's!!"
