Over the last few years, both Melbourne and Australia have seen the breakbeat scene explode. One of the key players in the newest school of Melbourne party crews has been Fractured. Armed with nothing more than a crew of breaks listeners and a strong vibe, these guys have taken things back to basics - where the most important thing is the music.
From the funky sounds of party-style hip hop to the deep, progressive breaks that has put Melbourne on the world breakbeat map, the sound of Australian breakbeat is the freshest sound on the block.
MEAT KATIE
Meat Katie - aka DJ Mark Pember - is one of the leaders in the nu-skool breaks scene. He has held DJ residencies at Scala and Bedrock Heaven, as well playing regularly at Mass, Fabric and various venues around Europe. Mark has carried out remixes for labels for everyone from A&M to Rennie Pilgrem's TCR to name but a few. His debut album Off the Bone released in July 1998 received excellent reviews and earned him features throughout the heavyweight UK music press. His mix-CD from last year - Beyond the Darkness - was an essential release for the discerning breaks listener.
