Local authorities in Falaraki & Ayia Napa are considering sharing tactics to neutralise British hooligans, the Guardian reported this week.

"Ayia Napa in Cyprus has the same problems as we do with British troublemakers, so joining forces in the fight against them makes a lot of sense," said Falaraki councillor Lefteris Papaeleftheriou.

The plan could impact heavily on Ayia Napa's music scene, since Falaraki police this week imposed a midnight curfew on bars playing music, a move they suggested will be a 'final blow' against the hooligan element (the Telegraph).

Meanwhile, back in England, Daily Telegraph columnist Andrew Gimson admitted to a sneaking admiration for the 'pluck' [Toff Ed- courage] and 'fighting spirit' of hooligan Brits abroad and suggested their delinquency is a symptom of the decline of Britain's class system.

"The problem is not so much that we have a tradition of hooliganism, as that we no longer have an officer class, or indeed an NCO (sergeant) class, with the will to keep these hooligans within bounds," he sniffed.

Rival columnist was less sure that Toffs could keep the masses in order, pointing out in the Observer "bingeing is classless."

"From Sir Toby Belch, via Euan Blair to Prince Harry and his polo-trash friends, getting hammered is the province of the affluent."
