80s electro pop kings Duran Duran are enjoying a critical renaissance following the release of their 13CD single box set ('81-85) which came out on EMI last week.

Their pin-up status overshadowed the fact that they were a brilliant band," Trash mainman/ bootleg DJ Errol Alkan told the Sunday Times. "They merged that funk/disco thing with the new electronic stuff and it's much darker and more sinister than people think."

In the same feature, Luke Jenner from New York scenesters the Rapture was similarly enthusiastic confessing 'Duran Duran were my favourite band in fourth grade."

Duran Duran Singles Box Set '81-85 is out now on EMI and includes extended versions of Planet Earth, Girls On Film, Hungry Like the Wolf and one of their finest moments Careless Memories.
