Weekend drug users hoping to beat saliva screening swab tests can escape detection by drinking several litres of water, according to Alan Parkinson, managing director of British company Drug & Alcohol Testing Systems.

"Swab tests as a first line screening in the work place are now quite common," Mr Parkinson told the Standard.

"Unless you drink several litres of water to try to get drugs out of the system before taking a test at work- known as flushing- you are likely to test positive."
