Police testing for date rape drugs discovered 1 in 25 drinks in nightclub were spiked, in a random test carried out this week in Essex. Cops collected 200 glasses at random and discovered eight showed traces of tranquillisers (4%).

"We had expected something in the region of 1%," Sergeant Nigel Dermott, told the Telegraph.

"It certainly is a serious issue."

The findings followed another survey published by Company Magazine last week of 1000 single British women aged between 18-28 which revealed that 50% admitted to being so drunk on occasion they had no memory of getting home 29% admitted losing keys, money and valuables while one in ten confessed they'd been so drunk 'they had to be escorted home by a stranger' (Telegraph).

Meanwhile in Scotland, police issued a warning this week about a gang of men stalking Edinburgh's gay areas, who are slipping GHB into men's drinks then raping them. At least four men have been attacked in the city in the last month, Gay.com reported, after being initially approached by 'an apparently friendly stranger'.

"You could be a heterosexual person in an area perceived to be a gay area, and be the victim of a homophobic attack," warned Keith Cowan a spokesman for Outright Scotland (gay.com)
