Cowboy Bebop - DVD Review

Cowboy Bebop is as strange and incongruous as its name. But where other Anime fall down at trying to be too quirky, Cowboy Bebop succeeds with a blend of style and substance, that really makes you wonder if the writers were practising sleep deprivation.

There is a jazzy musical score played by 'The Seatbelts,' a brilliant 70's spy movie like credit sequence, which introduces one of the most imaginative 'universes' you'll ever see on your TV. A mixture of 'Film Noir,' 'Western' and 'Science Fiction.'

The main characters are Spike Spiegel, Jet Black and Faye Valentine. Spike and Jet have chosen the more interesting of Anime professions, the bounty hunter and Faye through happenstance, has come along for the ride.

Cowboy bebop was canned in Japan after 12 of its 24 episodes. Luckily it was picked up by the WOWOW network and later became the first adult Anime to be shown to American audiences on the Cartoon Network.

I highly recommend Cowboy Bebop just because it is so satisfying to watch a well scripted, beautifully designed and exceedingly original piece of work.
