Safety expert warned this week that fashion victims wearing the newly ubiquitous parachute pants (combat trousers with loads of tassels) could unwittingly be dicing with death.

"The flowing straps could get caught in escalators, car doors or in the doors on tube trains," said Karen Blanchette from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

"Accidents such as these could end in serious injury and even death." (Guardian)

The Guardian feature on unexpected dangers revealed that over 3,500 Brits are hospitalised each year in trouser-related accidents, including those injured by tripping over their trousers and over 500 people mutilated in zipper incidents.
