Chemical Brothers-America's War On Clubs Is Insane

Tom and Ed from the Chemical Brothers chatted to Skrufff this week and branded America's escalating assault on club culture and nightlife 'insanity'.

"The politics of hedonism and the outlawing of dance music is really harsh and really horrible because people should have the right when they're young to make their own choices and experiment with things and be with each other in different states- dance music provides a focus for that," said Ed.

It's becoming more political to go to a club these days."

His long term production partner Tom agreed saying 'I think in America, it's off its rocker (crazy- slang ed) isn't it- I can't believe what's going on over there, politically, towards club culture- it's insanity."

The pair were chatting about their retrospective Best of album (Singles '93-'03) which prompted Tom to recall Britain's own version of the RAVE Act, the equally ridiculous Criminal Justice Act which infamously tried to ban music with repetitive beats, in 1995.

"There was a weird time in England when there was the Criminal Justice Bill happening, that seems strange to look back at now," said Tom.

"Again it was madness when you think about it, the whole concept of trying to outlaw repetitive beats."

The pair host a special 10 year anniversary Glint party at Turnmills next weekend (Saturday September 6) when they'll be joined at the East London venue by Richard Moonboots, Nathan Detroit and Butch Cassidy (The Platinum Finger) and the Sunblest Kids.
