Almost 50% of Britons are believed to be carrying a feline parasite that makes men behave like 'alley cats' and women 'sex kittens', according to a new study carried out by the Stanley Research Medical Institute Of Maryland (US).

According to study author Professor Flegr, men infected with the toxoplasma gondo parasite are scruffy and aggressive and 'tend to dislike following rules' he told the Sunday Times, whereas women carrying the brain parasite become sexier, higher maintenance and more fun loving.

"We found the women were more easy-going, more warm-hearted, had more friends and cared about how they looked," he revealed.

"However, they were also less trustworthy and had relationships with more men."

Times medical expert Doctor Thomas Stuttaford warned that the brain parasite can be easily picked up, through stroking infected animals and inadequate hygiene protection.

"Cats' faeces must be avoided," he urged.

"Cats should not be allowed in the kitchen and hands must be washed after stroking the cat. The animal should be encouraged to sleep in a basket and not on someone's pillow."

Study author Professor Flegr also suggested between 80 and 90% of people in France and Germany already carry the brain infection which is uncurable.
