America Tightens EU Visa Rules

British and European Union citizens who try to enter America with old style passports or incorrect visas, face being locked up then deported, under new visa regulations being introduced from October 1st.

Under the new rules, anyone attempting to enter from tourist visa waiver countries (including Britain and most of Western Europe) will be handcuffed and kicked out if their passport isn't machine-readable.

"Those whose passports are not (machine readable) will need to have a $100 US visa," The Guardian reported.

In more US news, The Daily Telegraph reported this week that a local man was locked up for carrying an untethered six week old kitten on the New York subway, breaking an ancient law banning uncaged animals from the railway system.

"America may be the land of the free, but the liberty proclaimed as every citizen's birthright does not extend to six-week-old kitten at large in the New York subway," said the Telegraph's Marcus Warren.

The kitten, a black and white tabby called Gizmo, was released two days later along with its owner Angel Melendez, who reportedly said "after being locked up, I feel like an animal, like my cat".
