London underground techno legend Alex Silverfish, who recently took the first steps towards changing sex from male to female, is also changing musical style, she told Skrufff in an exclusive interview this week.

"After a life of agony, four years of therapy and two suicide attempts, I've finally started a sex reassignment program to correct a natural error that occurred at birth. Basically I finally become one after a lifetime of living a double life," said Alex.

"Musically, I've been inspired by clubs like Nag, Nag, Nag and The Cock, and I've added electroclash and ghetto-tech to the electro, synth-pop and techno I've always played."

Alex's Silverfish collective encompassed hundreds of warehouse parties, London's first-ever techno cafe and a wide range of record releases, though these days she concentrating on her DJ career, with upcoming gigs booked at both The Cock, A Night Like This (alongside Damian Lazurus and JoJo De Freq) and Pride (in Hyde Park, July 26).

Alex admitted that her new image caused more than a few raised eyebrows, when she visited clubs in her new form.

"Nobody recognised me and I had to re-introduce myself to quite a lot of people," she said.

"Others who knew me better cracked open a beer and sipped it fast, ….with relief ." Alex also found London's trans-gendered clubbing types welcoming, saying "I meet lots of transvestites and transgenderists in clubs and I get along really well. Though I don't really know many real transsexuals like me. If you want me to be sarcastic, then,Yes I win 'the war of the trannies' most of the time."

Catch Alex DJing at A Night Like This (Saturday July 19), the Cock (Ghetto) on July 25 (alongside Princess Julia) and Pride (inside the Cock tent, Saturday July 26).
